Grain Harvest Recipe: Marigold Buns

Grain Harvest Recipe: Marigold Buns

This week’s grain harvest recipe features marigolds. According to Magnus, the flower is most potent for magic when gathered in August in the sign of Leo. The recipe this week is Marigold Buns or muffins since they will be made in a muffin tin. This muffin offers you a few magical attributes as well as tasting fantastic. Magickal attributes are protection, help with legal matters, psychic dreams, abating jealousy, and sun magick.

Grain Harvest Recipe: Marigold Buns

Marigold Buns

1 cup marigold petals
1 cup milk
1 egg
3 1/2 cups flour
1/2 cup of sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
6 tablespoons butter
1/2 cup candied orange peel
1 cup raisins

Secure marigold petals in a small muslin or cheesecloth bag. In a small saucepan, heat the milk with the marigold “tea bag” over a low flame until very hot but not boiling. Pour into a medium sized bowl to cool. When the milk is lukewarm, remove the marigold petals bag and beat in the egg.

Mix the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Using a fork, cut in the butter. Stir in the orange peel and raisins. Add the milk to the flour mixture; beat for 10 minutes. Pour into a well-greased 12-cup or 2 6-cup muffin tins. Bake until golden brown, about 10 minutes at 400 degrees.

Yield:1 dozen.
