Leilani Münter, the self-proclaimed “vegan hippie chick with a race car”, is unique in many ways. Not only is the biology graduate turned race car driver one of few female drivers in her sport, she is also committed to raising awareness of the environment, renewable energies, the planet and its future.
It may appear to be a contradiction given that the race car driver earns a living from one of the most gas-guzzling industries on the planet, but Leilani Münter, who drives in the ARCA Racing Series, finds a balance.
Off the racing track, Leilani Münter drives an electric Tesla Model S, while her home in Charlotte, North Carolina, features solar panels, a 550 gallon rainwater collection system, solar and LED lighting, and a vegetable garden.
