Artist Debra Bernier creates stunning pieces of sculpture, which represent the “sacred connection we all share with nature”, using driftwood, clay and shells.

The Canadian artist, based in Victoria, says the pieces are also a reflection of her life, her children and her family.

Describing her work, Debra Bernier said: “When I work with driftwood, I never start with a blank canvas. Each piece of driftwood is already a sculpture, created by the caresses of the waves and wind.

“Each piece of driftwood holds a story. When I sculpt & carve wood, I image this history, creating with the contours. These fascinating shapes have been sculpted by nature & time. My art is a personal expression of the gentle beauty I see in nature.”
