The Vercors is a massif of mountains and plateaus East of the Rhône Valley, between the Drome department and the Isere department

The Vercors massif and surrounding areas are protected thanks to the Natural regional park.

In addition to outstanding, vertiginous landcapes the Vercors is also famous for the part played during WW2.

During the XXe century, these mountains were used as a shelter by the French Resistance during WWII. These resistant camps housed 400 combatants by the beginning of 1944, provisioned by locals. On June 6, 1944, the roads entering the mountain were closed, and the Vercors was declared a republic (République du Vercors). In July 21, 1944, the mountain was attacked by 15,000 German soldiers by the roads, the small passes in the cliffs, and from the air. Resistants where only 3,500 at this time. 600 resistants and 200 civilians including women, childs and infants were killed…

Fort La Latte is a fortified castle at the East of Cap Fréhel, standing 196ft (60m) on a rock above the sea.The imposing edifice was built in the 14th century, and fortified in the 17th century. Crossing the drawbridge and exploring the crenellations, turrets and dungeons will take you back to the past.

Built by an important Breton family (the Goyon-Matignons) in the 15th century on a promontory at the entrance of the Fresnaye Bay, this Castle was first called Roche Goyon. He belonged to the Grimaldis and knew two major assaults in 1379 and in 1597. The latter destroyed it strongly but yet the 2 drawbridges were saved. This is a remarkable medieval building turned into a fortified castle to protect Saint Malo under the reign of Louis 14th. This pink sandstone lookout used to protect Saint Malo ships from the enemies (English and Dutch). Its military use continued…

Perched on a promontory that offers a dramatic  view over the Dordogne valley and the surrounding castles, Loubressac is a charming medieval village. The houses built of ochre stone and capped with pointed roofs. The church of Saint Jean Baptiste and the Castle, dating back to the 15th century and 18th century, are worth the short climb to reach them.

Located in South of France 140 km South of Limoges and 143 km North of Toulouse Loubressac is listed on the Most Beautiful villages of France along the Dordogne Valley as well as Carennac and Autoire.
