Imbolc/Candlemas

Imbolc

Imbolc is a Celtic festival that marks the beginning of spring and the return of the light. It is celebrated on February 1st or 2nd, depending on the lunar calendar. Imbolc is a time to honor the goddess Brigid, who is associated with fire, healing, poetry, and smithcraft. Imbolc/Candlemas is also a time of cleansing, clearing and letting go. Here are some ways to celebrate Imbolc/Candlemas this year:

Light candles to symbolize the warmth and brightness of the sun. You can also make a Brigid’s cross out of straw or reeds and hang it on your door or window for protection and blessing.
It is time to do a thorough cleansing of your home and yourself of any negative energy or clutter. You can use herbs, incense, salt, or water to purify your space and prepare for the new season. You can also donate or recycle any unwanted items or clothes.
If you are thinking of having a garden, now is the time to start your seedlings in pots in your house to represent the potential and growth of spring. You can also make a wish or set an intention for the coming year and write it on a piece of paper. Then, bury it in the soil or burn it in the fire.
Make a meal with seasonal foods such as dairy products, grains, root vegetables, and herbs. You can also bake bread or cakes and offer them to Brigid as a sign of gratitude and devotion. You can also share your food with your family, friends, or neighbors.
Finally, Meditate or do a creative activity, such as writing, painting, knitting, or crafting. Imbolc is a time to tap into your inner fire and inspiration. You can also read some poems or stories about Brigid to help light your creative fire. I know this post may be a bit early but if you are like me you need time to prepare if plan to do something special.  So I thought I would post this for all of you who need to find that last little thing to complete the ritual or the recipe. Here is my favorite recipe for this celebration Glazed Lemon Bread.
