Petrol and diesel cars are amongst some of the worst generators of nitrogen dioxide, which causes many serious health issues to the public, such as long-term exposure decreasing lung function, increased risk of respiratory conditions and increased response to allergens. Not only does nitrogen dioxide affect us, it also effects the world around us. Due to the intense levels produced by the millions of cars in the world, nitrogen dioxide causes devastating effects such as acid rain, smog and ground-level ozone formation. In a desperate effort to reduce these effects, the government hopes that the ban of petrol and diesel engine cars will lead to a switch to less harmful electric vehicles and increase in use other forms of alternative transport.
