World Oceans Day takes place on June 8 and a team of youth ambassadors are urging people to commit to reducing the use of single-use plastics in their daily life.

Every year, World Oceans Day provides an opportunity to honour, help protect, and conserve the world’s oceans. The theme for this year’s World Oceans Day is “Our Oceans, Our Future”, with the main focus on the prevention of plastic pollution and cleaning the ocean of marine litter.

This year a team of 11 young people, between the ages of 14 and 22, have helped to shape World Oceans Day, providing fresh ideas and recommendations for developing the global event, as well as expanding opportunities for ocean conservation throughout the year.
