Sure, Valentines presents are important, but so is the card and the message inside it. Writing a Valentines card doesn’t have to involve a particular format, but of course, it can if you like. Whether your writing is more Ozzy Osbourne than Orwell, it’s important to write as you speak. Just be yourself. At the end of the day, that’s why your partner loves you, right?
The ‘words’ are your oyster – there are no boundaries as towhat words you can and can’t use, and no limit as to how creative you can be! To add even more personality to your card and Valentine message, you could use confetti or stickers. You could even compose a poem, slip in some song lyrics, or draw a picture.
Lots of folks, especially guys, are terrified at the thought of buying Valentines gifts let alone a Valentine’s Card. Many people pick out a sentimental card from the dozens festooning the rack, along with the requisite flowers and chocolates.
Sure, you could buy a Valentine’s card featuring a fancy pre-written message from the local petrol station or high street. But this year, why not write your own Valentines message? What’s the worst that could happen? You don’t have to be Hemingway to do it, either.
Valentines card messages to your hubby, wife, girlfriend or boyfriend don’t have to be long. If you really want to keep it sweet and simple, something like: ‘Dear _____ (name), Happy Valentine’s Day! Love ____ (your name)’ should do the trick.
If you want something a little soppier, here are a few tips for getting it right…
Get the right tone. You know your Valentine most of all, so make sure your tone is loving, heartfelt, and maybe even a tad childish. If you opt for the romantic approach, start your message off with ‘My darling…’, or, if you prefer a more childlike tone, you could write, ‘To the bestest Valentine on the planet.’
Thank your Valentine for their love. One of the most important things to write in valentines cards is that you appreciate them loving you. Valentine messages could include things like, ‘I just want you to know that I’m lucky to have you in my life. Thank you for being in my life and my world’, or ‘Thank you for loving me. You are my sunshine, my love, my angel… you’ve brought so much joy into my life.’
Profess your love (again!). So, you’ve thanked your Valentine for loving you, so now it’s time to reaffirm yourlove.Don’t be shy.Valentine card messages should go beyond the traditional ‘I love you.’ How about something like, ‘You are my rock through all the bad times, the most beautiful waterfall in all the good times…’?Sentimental, hmm? Or perhaps, ‘You are my friend, my love, my all. You are the most amazing part of waking up every morning.’Or go even soppier, ‘I love you, with every beat of my heart and every breath I take. Thank you for being in my life and my world.’ Aaawh! How could your other half not be touched by Happy Valentines Day messages like those?
Aside from the Valentines pressies, expressing your emotions with words is just as important. Remember, love isn’t what you say, but how you say it.
