Geology: The yellow topaz called Imperial or sherry is considered the most valuable of the topaz. The majority comes from Brazil with small amounts found in Russia, Japan, Sri Lanka, Burma, Germany and the United States. Topaz is a hard stone rating 8 on Moh’s scale of hardness. Topaz is made of hard pyramid topped crystals and is a fluorosilicate of aluminum.

Physical Uses: Historically yellow topaz has been used by the Romans for protection when traveling, to prevent burns and to bring wealth and favor. In India the saffron yellow topaz was worn for health, wisdom and to prevent sudden death. The stone is beneficial for the eyes, to overcome nervous exhaustion, to energize the physical body, to stimulate digestion and to assimilate nutrients. If a yellow topaz is given as a gift between lovers and turns color it signals infidelity. When worn on the left hand the stone is said to prevent sleepwalking. It helps to protect the house against fire and theft. Use to prevent accidents.

Spiritual Uses: Hold the topaz in your left hand if you want to be invisible or go unnoticed. Place on the body of a dying person to help with a peaceful transition into the spirit world.
