Geology: A hard stone, aquamarine rates 7.5-8 on Moh’s scale of hardness. Aquamarine is a member of the beryl family. Beryl is a silicate mineral found in igneous and metamorphic rocks. Aquamarine is the second most popular gem beryl next to emerald. It is found in Brazil, India, Russia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Nigeria, Madagascar, Ireland and the United States. Aquamarine is one of the few gemstones that have never been successfully synthesized or duplicated.

Physical Uses: The name aquamarine is derived from aqua (water) and mare (sea). It associated with the sea and beings of the sea. Sailors and fishermen have used it to protect from storms and danger ensuring a safe passage. Aquamarine can be used to soothe, balance and heal the throat, thyroid, eyes, pituitary gland, kidneys, liver, spleen and stomach. Romans used it for stomach, liver, throat and jaw issues. It is reported that the stone can be used to eliminate fluid retention by strengthening the kidneys, liver, thyroid and spleen helping the body to detoxify. Wear or place aquamarine on your throat if you are having communication or self-expression issues. Associated with love, aquamarine will help to promote harmonious interactions between mates.

Spiritual Uses: In the east aquamarine is a stone of the seer and mystic. It sharpens the intuition, helps to balance body, mind and spirit, eliminate fear and to bring the truth forward. Aquamarine will aid you in being in a higher state of awareness. Use in meditation to promote inner peace, inspiration and love. Place aquamarine in a bath to cleanse body, mind and spirit prior to meditation or magic rituals. When charged and carried the stone can be used to protect against accidents and to attract wealth. Use it to connect with water beings.

Mental Uses: Use aquamarine to open your psychic center. Place an aquamarine in a glass of water and let it sit in full moonlight for at least 3 hours. Retrieve the glass and drink the water for purification and heightened psychic awareness. Use the stone to quiet a restless mind, release judgments and mental constructs that no longer support you.

Emotional Uses: Use to soothe and balance the emotions. Assists in banishing fear, doubt, phobias and emotional imbalances.
