Sheiks and Shebas, welcome back to Jazz Age Wednesdays.  Today I have an all new story for you, from the Pip-verse.  It’s a new collaboration with Chris Graham, the Story Reading Ape!

Chris is really busy with huge personal projects right now, so double thanks to him for working on this story with me.  I’m also getting ready to start National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo), so I will be busy (or overwhelmed).  Anyhow what I’m trying to say is that I left the ending of this story open for a second part, incase we decide to come back to it when things (for both of us) settle down.

Over the years, we’ve done several short stories for the Pip-verse, adding Chris’ creation, Artie — a most extraordinary ape.  Artie is back!

The steampunk riverboat is here.  Hello, my chuckaboos!  Thanks for coming back to the The Delta Pearl. It’s been a busy week. Are you ready to sink into the soft cushions of imagination and let the river gently take you to extraordinary places?

This week’s random reader things

This steampunk riverboat runs on random “things” from readers. Resa McConaghy provided Tempest Prognosticator.  (What’s that and how does it work? Click to find out.) Across the miles in Ireland, Inese sent Mahogany.  She doesn’t have a blog, but Ginger still gave us a thing from Murphy’s LawWhalebone Corset.

Thanks to Dan Antion  for letting me use some of his photos.   Any of you #steampunk fans who like real life trains will enjoy his latest Thursday Doors post.  Be sure to visit Dan at

Lucille Ball teenaged 1Lucille Ball as Pip

Sheiks and Shebas, it’s another Jazz Age Wednesday.  Today I’m here with a little trivia. If you’re a regular, then you know that I like to use Roaring Twenties slang in my replies to comments.  They had such fun with language back then.

Twenties Tidbit

One of my favorite 1920s compliments is You’re the cat’s pajamas!  Which, of course, means something along the lines of “You’re terrific.”  It describes someone (or thing) who is the best at what they do, something highly sought after and desirable.

To break it down, a cat  was slang for a man, especially an unconventional man.  So we already know it means someone (or thing) cool.  However, there’s a little more to it than that.  Because of the “pajamas” it has a rather risque undertone.
