Ski season is upon the adventurous and for eco ski warriors, Switzerland’s eco-luxury hotel and alpine experience, Whitepod, opens its doors again on 9 December for some eco-glamping and igloo-emulating fun in the snow.
Located in the stunning Valais region of Switzerland, Whitepod offers vacationers a stay in pods that are each heated by a pellet stove. The dome-like pods are energy-efficient for a number of reasons – most notably the shape means there is a constant air flow with no stagnant corners, requiring less energy to circulate air and maintain even temperatures.
Whitepod is designed to combine ecology and luxury. The use of energy and water is controlled. The waste is recycled. All food served in the restaurant is sourced locally. And everything down to the cleaning products are eco-friendly.
Each of the 15 eco-friendly pods are individual suites offering the comfort of a traditional hotel with breathtaking views of the landscape, as if you are viewing from a window of an igloo.
Depending on which season you desire to ski, the pods at Whitepod change color to reflect that season. White in the winter and green in the summer.
Whitepod, with its igloo-emulating concept, is a fun and adventurous place to vacation for kids, families and couples alike. The pods cater for different party sizes. And in keeping with its respect of nature, there is limited transport in the camp.
The walk from the main hotel reception to the pods is around 15 mins and it is recommended that you have the proper garb on – boots and mountain clothing – for your trek to the pods. That’s not going to be for everyone but see the entirety of the stay as an adventure, and the breathtaking views and igloos are likely to bring you to the whole party.
