Around the World in 80 Eco Spas: Eco Spa Highland, Quebec

Eco Spa Highland, Quebec

In the seventh of Ravenhawks Magazine’s series on eco spas, we meet the Canadian summit based, Eco Spa Highland Grenville-sur-la-Rouge, Quebec

Canada’s Laurentians is where you’ll find rolling hills, crystal blue lakes, cute towns and lakes weaved in and around this natural beauty that’s just over an hour from Montreal and Ottawa. High up on a summit overlooking the Harrington Valley, one of the last untouched valleys of the Laurentians, is the Eco Spa Highland.

As remote and as “up in the Gods” as it gets when it comes to eco spas in Canada, situated in Grenville-sur-la-Rouge, Eco Spa Highland is a picturesque destination for anyone who dreams of viewing snow capped mountains whilst in the heated depths of outdoor thermal spas.

Eco Spa Highland, a labor of love created by couple Philippe and Marie Eve, is a spa swarming with eco credentials from the carbon-neutral technologies used to heat the spas, sanitary water and floors through to the building materials which were selected based on ecological criteria, including the cedar siding of the main building. The couple have created a unique spa getaway that is respectful of the land, taking into consideration the natural lay of the land and fauna.

If you vacation in Quebec, Eco Spa Highland may feature on your to do list. If so, make sure you book a trip to the spa in advance as Eco Spa Highland offers limited access to the three outdoor baths, all of which are cleansed naturally using salt from the Laurentians. Use of the Nordic-style thermal baths and saunas, with their panoramic views of the untouched valley, are limited daily to 12 people at night and 24 during the day.

Eco Spa Highland also offers accommodation although limited, there being only five rooms available in the main building. It’s not that this eco spa is trying to be “exclusive” in any way, but the space itself is small and in respect of the land, it is not made for the masses so to speak and neither is the ascent to the summit-based spa for the faint hearted.
